Mailing Guide

Tips & tricks for sending your wedding invitations safely (and beautifully) into the world.

Postage Basics

  • Weight matters – Wedding invitations are often heavier than standard mail because of the thick paper, extra cards and pretty details. This means your wedding suites will probably need more than the standard forever stamp.

  • Size counts too – Larger, square, or oddly shaped envelopes don’t qualify for standard postage.

  • Rule of thumb – Take one fully stuffed invitation suite to the post office to weigh before buying stamps so you know how much postage is needed for your suite.

Special Postage Considerations

  • Non-Machinable Mail – Wax seals, ribbons, square envelopes, or thick suites usually require a “non-machinable” stamp (a small surcharge).

  • International Guests – Use international postage for invites leaving the U.S.

  • RSVP Cards – If you are having your guests RSVP via mail in, don’t forget to pre-stamp your RSVP envelopes so guests can easily send them back.

Helpful Mailing Tips

  • Stamp Shopping – The post office rarely has the full selection. Check USPS.com to order directly and avoid being stuck with not-so-pretty stamps. Note: Sometimes it does take a while (over a week) to get the stamps delivered so plan early!

  • Transporting Your Invites – Carry your sealed envelopes in a bin or box. Trust us, you don’t want a latte spill on your carefully designed invites.

  • Sealing Made Easy – Your envelopes will be easier to seal using our favorite envelope sealer linked here.

Vintage Stamp Vibes

Love the romantic, collected look of vintage stamps? Here’s what to know:

  • Cost – Vintage postage is usually about 5x more expensive than regular stamps.

  • Authenticity Check – Be careful buying online, some sellers pass off non-usable or inauthentic stamps.

  • Money-Saving Hack – Use vintage stamps just for a few invitation keepsakes or your wedding flat lay photos.

  • Stacking Style – Mix vintage stamps with regular postage to create a layered, unique look without breaking the bank.
